Sunshine Coast Regional District Staff (SCRD) staff are problem solving a solution to an unexpected surprise in the parking lot of 1975 Field Rd. – a burned-out travel trailer RV.
“The RV was dropped off on the weekend without any particular authority to do so,” SCRD chief administrative officer Dean McKinley told Coast Reporter.
Staff are working with the RCMP and the Ministry of Transportation to safely remove the wreck from the SCRD parking lot and transport it to an appropriate location, McKinley said. Staff have been in daily contact with both organizations “to find out when that move will occur.”
The truck’s windows are smashed and there are gaping holes in the burnt metal walls of the trailer.
According to Sunshine Coast RCMP Staff Sgt. Poppy Hallam, the RV had been found burning on the side of Highway 101 in Roberts Creek.
It appears to match the older model RV that was on fire in the 3200 block on Sunday, Nov. 17.
The vehicle is without a VIN and the RCMP has been unable to identify ownership in its investigation.
“Considering it was abandoned on a highway with no owner claiming it, the Ministry for Transportation and Infrastructure is ultimately responsible for its destruction. The fact it was left at the Regional District was not a police involved decision,”Hallam said.
