Blasting will start at the Gospel Rock development next week.

Blasting is scheduled to begin on the Gospel Rock site on Wednesday, Nov. 29.

Town of Gibsons staff will be visiting the site beforehand "to ensure that the blasting only occurs in approved areas and that the conservation areas are still fenced and protected," town communications manager Bronwyn Kent told Coast Reporter.

This fall, keen-eyed residents have noticed some work at the Gospel Rock site of the Touchstone development.

Earlier this month, a development update posted to touchstonegibsons.com stated the Maycon Construction’s office has been set up in one of the trailers on site and will be the on-site construction team’s headquarters.

The Infrastructure Services Department’s third quarter report to Gibsons council on Oct. 17 included a servicing agreement and notice to proceed with construction for Block 7 Chaster Road of Gospel Rock Phase 1 to Onsite Earthworks. Staff said the servicing agreement was specifically for Earthworks to grade the site and do drainage.

The report also notes trees were removed to allow construction of road and utility works at the Touchstone development at Gospel Rock.

The Town of Gibsons confirmed all necessary permits have been obtained and fees are up to date. Kent told Coast Reporter that Gibsons issued Greenlane Homes Ltd. the necessary permits for tree removal and to begin onsite earthworks. “Staff are currently reviewing civil drawings for the upcoming off-site work. To ensure that the project adheres to all guidelines and environmental regulations, including erosion and sediment control, a third-party engineering firm, along with Town staff, is overseeing the work. The developers are also working with the Sunshine Coast Conservation Association to maintain ecosystem integrity,” she said via email.

The update on Touchstone’s website also said work on the construction fencing is continuing and issued a reminder that access to the site is restricted now that construction work is under way. A marketing representative for the project told Coast Reporter the development team is in the early stages of site work, and more progress is expected over the next few months and beyond.
