BC Ferries says it should have more information next week about when the Queen of Surrey can return to service, but determining the cause of the March 26 accident that stranded passengers onboard for 10 hours will take longer.
A week after the Surrey hit the Stormaway dock while coming into Berth 1 at Langdale, it was still at the terminal waiting to be towed to dry dock for a thorough inspection and repairs.
Deborah Marshall of BC Ferries told Coast Reporter this week that Ferries expected to be able to move the Queen of Surrey to Seaspan’s Vancouver Dry Dock on April 4.
“There is damage to the car deck, steering gear compartment and rudder. Once the ship is in dry dock, we can get a full assessment of required repairs,” Marshall said in an email.
Marshall also thanked customers for their ongoing patience, and said BC Ferries is conducting a “divisional inquiry,” which she described as their highest level of internal investigation.
“The investigation will be thorough, and results will help to determine the cause of the incident as well as the next steps,” she said.
