As SCRD eyes long-needed repairs to Cliff Gilker, it looks to the public for vision

The legacy of the November 2021 atmospheric river still lingers in Cliff Gilker Regional Park

As the Sunshine Coast Regional District (SCRD) looks to make permanent fixes to damage from the November 2021 atmospheric river storm series in Roberts Creek's Cliff Gilker Park, it is asking for the public's vision for the popular recreational area.

With two bridges still out of commission, two others in need of repair and trail sections eroding, staff have recommended a $1.67 million plan to replace the upper waterfall and gorge bridges, make accessibility upgrades and repairs to trails and decommission the lower waterfall and zig-zag bridges.

Ahead of this, the district is looking for community input on what they'd like to see in the park's future. A survey is open at letstalk.scrd.ca/cliff-gilker until Aug. 9.

Not within the scope of the project are the park's access road, playground and picnic areas, a press release adds.

In good news, staff hope to have the Cliff Gilker sports field reopened by the fall, the press release adds.
