A dozen artists from on and off the Coast are preparing their work for display in glorious gardens, all part of this year's Art in the Gardens Tour that runs Saturday, July 9, from noon to 4 p.m.

This specialized, self-guided tour is a fundraiser for the S.C. Botanical Garden Society and comes hot on the heels of the wildly successful Coastal Home Tour and Tea. Tickets are $10 for members, $12 for non-members, available at B&K Soils, Quality Farm and Sunshine Coast Nursery in Gibsons, Casey's Gardens and Talewind Books in Sechelt. This year's tour includes seven gardens in Roberts Creek, Gibsons and Hopkins Landing. Some are tiny, some sprawling, some flat and some on challenging hilly sites. All are inspired by love of plants and place. One garden includes massive found-metal sculptures woven into the landscape. Several include lively water features, and garden visitors can expect to find dozens of ideas they can adapt for their own gardens. The artists involved include well-known painter and print-maker Greta Guzek of Gibsons, award-winning potter Laurie Rolland of Davis Bay, sculptor Sarama of Gibsons and Roberts Creek chair-maker Tim Clement.

Craftsperson Bettina Matzkuhn will display her fine narrative stitcheries. Wood artist Geoff Clement, Miyuki Shinkai and Wayne Harjula of Mellon Glass, potter Pat Forst, photographer Paddy Wales and painters Helen Downing Hunter and Linda Evans will also display work. Most of the artists will have work for sale at the gardens.
