In the early hours of Thursday, Nov. 4, Sunshine Coast RCMP were called out to a report of a vehicle on fire at the Government Dock in Gibsons.
When RCMP members arrived at the scene they found an unoccupied vehicle engulfed in flames. The Gibsons fire department also responded to the call and doused the flames. Police has contacted the owner of the vehicle.
RCMP believes this incident to be an act of arson and are actively following up on several leads provided by witnesses at the scene.

Police have located several items that are believed to be stolen. Many of the items have been returned to the lawful owner. Two items have yet to be claimed; a two-foot high Native carving and a framed photograph of a big canoe.

On Nov. 2, a thief stole a black LG Keybo cell phone that had been left on a bench in a business in the 5500 block of Shorncliffe Avenue. The cell phone has a purple sticker on it. If anyone has any info about this theft, please contact RCMP, reference file 10-8617.
On the afternoon of Nov. 3, a hit and run occurred on Highway 101 near Pratt Road after a westbound vehicle drifted into the eastbound lane and clipped the rear driver's side of an eastbound vehicle. A witness to the incident confirmed the eastbound driver's account that the suspect driver, described as a small, elderly male wearing a hat, did not appear to notice he'd drifted or struck a vehicle. In the collision, the suspect vehicle, a burgundy 2002 Toyota Camry, lost a piece of what is believed to be the front bumper. The suspect driver was last seen turning left onto Pratt Road. Anyone with any information about this hit and run is asked to contact RCMP, reference file 10-8644.
There was an motor vehicle accident around 7:15 p.m. on Wednesday night, Nov. 3 where a vehicle, driven by a 17-year-old-female, was turning left from Shaw Road onto Gibsons Way and the driver did not see a 13-year-old male pedestrian who was walking his bike across the intersection. The driver did attempt to stop, but was unable to and struck the pedestrian in the leg causing him to fall over. The pedestrian was transported to St Mary's Hospital by paramedics complaining of a sore knee. The driver was issued a violation ticket for failing to yield to a pedestrian at a green light.
A shoplifter was caught by staff at a business in the 5500 block of Highway 101. The shoplifter returned the stolen item when approached by staff outside the business, but refused to cooperate further and fled in a vehicle. A licence plate of the vehicle was obtained and police are attempting to locate the suspect.
Vandals removed a number of large boulders from a newly constructed foot trail that runs from Egmont Road to Sakinaw Lake Road. It is believed ATV'ers removed these boulders in order to access the trails. Police are looking for any witnesses who may have seen a pick-up truck in the area using a rope to remove the boulders. Anyone with any information about this mischief is asked to contact RCMP, reference file 10-8666.
A single-vehicle accident occurred in the 800 block of Gibsons Way after a vehicle crossed the centre line and ended on its side in the ditch. The lone driver was uninjured and advised that she fell asleep just before losing control of the vehicle. She was issued a violation ticket for crossing the centre line.
A possible impaired driver was reported on Highway 101 in Davis Bay when a vehicle was witnessed swerving and crossing the centre line. Police located the driver who, while not impaired, did appear to have some health issues that may affect his driving ability. The driver also admitted he'd been looking for an address when the erratic driving occurred.
A two motor-vehicle incident occurred on Stewart Road after the driver of the first vehicle was distracted by reaching for his wallet, and when he looked up, he was coming up on a second vehicle, and didn't have enough time to stop. The passenger of the rear-ended vehicle suffered minor injuries and was taken by the driver to hospital. The driver of the first vehicle was issued a violation ticket for following too closely.
On Nov. 7, a thief broke into an unlocked vehicle parked in the 5700 block of Naylor Road and stole two pairs of sunglasses, a Sears card and some cash. This is the second vehicle break-in to occur at the same address in a month.
