The 40th Sea Cavalcade Society is in jeopardy of having to cancel events due to lack of funding (in spite of fundraising efforts). "We are a non-profit organization run by volunteers. We only have access to sponsorship dollars and dollars raised in fundraising, raffle draws etc. to put on the event," said Sea Cav chair Conchita Harding. "Funding from organizations and local government has been down this year."

With this year marking the 40th anniversary of the event, Harding is hoping others in the community will step up to the plate and help with raising funds.

"It pains me to say that we may have to cancel some events due to lack of funding and volunteers to execute some of the events," added Harding. "This event is put on by the people for the people. The entire Sunshine Coast comes out to take in some or all of the events."

There are many ways the public can help. You can buy a Sea Cavalcade discount card available at 46 retailers on the Coast, or call Harding at 604-886-9648 to get a card.

Attend the fun money casino night tonight (Friday) at the Gibsons Legion. Play some blackjack, win some fun money and spend it at the auction immediately following blackjack.

You can buy a raffle ticket, available at Sunnycrest Mall and Trail Bay Centre. You can make a donation or volunteer to assist at an event or on the parade route.

Cheques payable to Sea Cavalcade 2008 can be sent to PO Box 1577, Gibsons, B.C. V0N 1V0.
