Advance voting for BC election begins this week on the Coast

And, there's still time to submit questions for tonight's all-candidates meeting.

It’s not always easy to get out and vote, especially when the Oct. 19, provincial election coincides with the annual Sunshine Coast Art Crawl taking place Oct. 18 to 20, from Gambier Island to Earl’s Cove.

But it’s vital you have your say, so advanced voting is available on the Sunshine Coast beginning Thursday, Oct. 10. All voting places are wheelchair accessible and open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.

  • Royal Canadian Legion Branch 109, 747 Gibsons Way: Oct. 10 and 11
  • Royal Canadian Legion Branch 112, 12829 Lillies Lake Rd., Madeira Park: Oct. 15 and 16
  • Seaside Centre, 5790 Teredo St., Sechelt: Oct. 12, 13, 15 and 16

Voting on election day

Polling places on Oct. 19 will also be open 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. at the following locations:

  • Holy Family Church Hall in West Sechelt
  • Sechelt Seniors Activity Centre
  • Roberts Creek/xwesam Community Hall

Who can vote

Canadian citizens over 18 years of age as of Oct. 19 and who have been residents of B.C. since April 18, 2024 are eligible to vote.

Voters must prove their identity and residential address, by showing either their B.C. driver’s licence, BC Identification Card, BC Services Card (with photo) or other card issued by the Government of B.C. or Canada that shows their name, photo and address or their certificate of Indian status. A listing of other identification that can be used is listed on the Elections BC website.

All candidates meeting tonight and Friday

Coast Reporter and the Sunshine Coast Chamber of Commerce are hosting two general-topic, live-streamed all-candidate meetings, starting tonight, Oct. 9, at 7 p.m. at the Heritage Playhouse in Gibsons.

There’s still time to submit your questions for candidates to candidatequestions.ca. And, while the livestreams will be posted to Facebook, you can also find links, the post-event video and coverage at coasterporter.net.

The second meeting takes place Friday, Oct. 11 at 7 p.m. at the Sechelt Seniors Activity Centre. You can livestream the Sechelt meeting, Oct. 11, at www.facebook.com/events/1969372700194778/. The events are free, but note seating is limited in each venue.
