A great year anticipated

Driftwood Players, the Sunshine Coast's long time amateur theatre company, held a very successful AGM Jan. 17.

Driftwood Players, the Sunshine Coast's long time amateur theatre company, held a very successful AGM Jan. 17. Following the usual AGM business were songs and comedy by some of the cast members of last fall's Ten Lost Years: Bill and Pat Forst, Ed White, Skye Wallace, Berni G and Casey Kneller.

Newly re-elected Drift-wood Players president, Bill Forst, was pleased with the meeting's outcome.

"I am very excited to have such great enthusiasm for local theatre," said Forst in a press release. "We have a full board of directors and dozens of new members and volunteers since our Ten Lost Years production. Last year at this time, we were scrambling for players and volunteers, and this year we have such a wealth of people that we expect to undertake a much greater variety of activities." The first project is the spring production of Norm Foster's The Melville Boys, directed by Casey Kneller. The production opens at the Heritage Playhouse March 27. The cast has been selected, and rehearsals are underway for this popular comedic drama.

Driftwood Players particularly congratulates Gibsons Heritage Play-house Society for paying off their debt and wish them an exciting year as they develop the projects that this financial freedom allows. Driftwood's previous board of directors authorized a donation of $2,000 from the Ten Lost Years' surplus towards the technical equipment fund of Heritage Playhouse, and they can now dedicate this donation in recognition of their financial milestone.
