Last Saturday the Sunshine Coast Salmonid Enhancement Society held the draw for its 2005/06 quilt raffle.

The quilt, entitled Something Fishy, was made and donated by the Gone to Pieces Quilters Guild of Roberts Creek.

Hilary Henderson, a member of the guild, is well aware of the struggle the society has to make ends meet each year, as her husband Ralph Henderson volunteers at the hatchery every Monday morning. It is through generous donations from so many individuals and groups in the community that the society is managing to stay in operation each year.

Net proceeds to the society from this raffle amounted to nearly $3,000. In addition to the Gone to Pieces Quilters Guild, thanks are due also to Sew Easy in Trail Bay Mall who displayed the quilt and sold tickets with no charge to the society. Tickets were sold by board and volunteer members led by board member Gordon Gray who sold $335 worth of tickets, thereby winning a fly rod donated by Ralph Henderson and a reel donated by Bob Lawson. Hatchery manager Bob Anstead coordinated the overall raffle effort and the winner was Mae Barton (herself a quilter).
