More options for $10 a day child care are coming to the Sunshine Coast, said Powell River-Sunshine Coast MLA Nicholas Simons in a March 28 news release.
The $10-a-Day ChildCareBC program has created more than 15,000 spaces for children over 27 locations province-wide, reducing daily childcare costs to $10 with a monthly maximum of $200.
Two childcare facilities on the Coast will become $10 a day ChildCare BC sites: the Sechelt YMCA Childcare, which has 37 spaces, and the Gibsons YMCA Childcare, which has 16.
The release states that the average monthly cost of full-time, centre-based infant care in participating facilities is $1,120 and that the program saves families roughly $920 a month.
In addition, as of April 1, families can no longer be charged a fee to put their name on a waitlist at licensed child care centres, said the provincial release.
“The Sunshine Coast is a great place to grow and raise a family,” said Simons in the release. “Now that these childcare spaces are becoming less expensive, families have more options for safe, reliable care for their children right here.”
