Driftwood presents Canadian playwright John Murrell's Waiting for the Parade next week. A perennial favourite with Canadian and international audiences, the story is of five Calgary women who respond very differently to civilian life at home during World War II, providing a tapestry of Canadian society in the 40s. Their friendship deepens as they learn to smile and sing in the face of loss and loneliness. Waiting for the Parade is a play about humanity and camaraderie, as well as war.

The cast features five local female actors: Catherine (Elisa Jardine), Eve (Lauren Robertson), Janet (Edith Troup), Margaret (Tracy Lloyd) and Marta (Casey Kneller).

The play previews at Gibsons Heritage Playhouse Oct. 25 with a pay what you can night. The grand opening is Oct. 26, and the show continues Oct. 27 to 28, Nov. 2 to 4 and Nov. 9 to 11. All shows begin at 8 p.m. There will be a Saturday matinée at 2 p.m. on Nov. 4, with tickets at half price.

Tickets are $15 each and are available in Sechelt at Talewind Books and in Gibsons at Gaia's Fair Trade Gifts (Lower Gibsons) and Hallmark Cards in Sunnycrest Mall.
