Pender author launches second book

BOOK LAUNCH
Frank White
Frank White will launch the second volume of his memoirs this month.

Pender Harbour’s Frank White, who turned 100 earlier this year, will launch the second volume of his memoirs, That Went By Fast: My First Hundred Years, at two Sunshine Coast events this November.

You can meet the centenarian himself in Sechelt at the Sunshine Coast Arts Centre on Saturday, Nov. 8, from 4:30 to 6 p.m.

He will also launch the book in Pender Harbour at the School of Music in Madeira Park, on Sunday, Nov. 16, from 2 to 4 p.m.

That Went By Fast is the sequel to White’s best-seller Milk Spills and One-Log Loads, and the second volume of his memoirs. Fascinating and frequently hilarious, the book sifts through White’s many adventures in his later life as a pioneer truck driver, camp owner, boat builder, garage mechanic, waterworks operator and husband to New Yorker writer Edith Iglauer.

Also included in the book are details about White’s time as the boss of a Green Bay logging camp in the 1950s, dealing with lowlife “log pirates,” his first days living in Pender Harbour when everyone did their business and shopping and visiting in “kickers” (small open boats), and the “hairy times” when the hippies started showing up on the Sunshine Coast in the 1970s and the friction and friendships that arose as a result.

Everyone is welcome to attend the two book launches, which will feature refreshments, book signings and stories. Howard White, Frank’s son and the publisher of Harbour Publishing, will also be in attendance.
