Painting and photos in new show

Art Beat

Where I Am Coming From, the works of Kasia Krolikowska, and Sculptures of the Sea by Bodhi Drope will be on show from Oct. 19 to Nov. 13 in the Doris Crowston Gallery at the Arts Centre in Sechelt. Krolikowska is from Poland and has lived on the Sunshine Coast for the past 23 years. She is a self-taught artist who started painting five years ago. She explains that Where I Am Coming From can relate to geographical, cultural and political aspects of her background. “But where I really am coming from, in art especially, is from within,” she said.

Krolikowska works in acrylics and mixed media. Look for the colour red in each of her paintings as it represents the driving power of emotions.

Bodhi Drope has been curator of the 1st Digital Art Exhibition on the Coast (2003), founder of the Gibsons Public Art Gallery (2003) and founding committee member of Public Art in Public Places, Town of Gibsons (2007-09). His exhibition, Sculptures of the Sea, was inspired by a chance sighting of a sculpture-like fishing boat off the coast of Chile.

“This exhibition includes a mix of boats from sea kayaks to tankers, even a house designed and built in the shape of a boat,” he said. All images are digitally enhanced/manipulated fine art prints. Opening night reception is Wednesday, Oct. 19 from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Arts Centre, 5714 Medusa St. in Sechelt. See www.sunshinecoastartscouncil.com for more.

Coats of Paint

Coats of Paint is a unique wearable art fashion show showcasing the artistic talents of over 30 artists and creating a wearable art fashion show. Artists were asked to paint directly onto the fabric to create textures and original, unrepeatable works of art. The fashion show is on one night only, Wednesday, Oct. 19 at 7 p.m. at Roberts Creek Hall. See www.facebook.com/coatsofpaintfashionshow for more.
