The summer-long Music in the Landing series, sponsored by the Town of Gibsons, comes to a mellifluous conclusion with five free performances over the Labour Day weekend.
On Friday, Sept. 2 at 7 p.m., veteran singer, songwriter and guitarist Jim Foster will share favourites from his five-decade repertoire during an appearance at Winegarden Park.
On Saturday, Sept. 3 at 3:30 p.m., the Lowry Olafson Band takes the stage. Olafson is a popular singer-songwriter and in-demand music educator. At 6:30 p.m. The Empty Streets performs a collection of new indie roots music featuring their distinctive sweet, dark sounds.
On Sunday at Sept. 4, Mavis Behavin’ presents bluesy gospel, followed by the Open Sesame Ensemble. On Monday, Sept. 5 at 3:30 p.m., “genre-hopping party music” ensemble Brothers in Farms fills the final performance slot.
Meanwhile, the last of the Slow Sundays in the Creek concerts takes place behind the Roberts Creek Community Library on Sunday, Sept. 4.
Starting at 12 p.m., the BUGS Ukulele Singers warm up the crowd with high-strung delicacies, followed by Dale Stavroff playing blues ukulele and Al Burns on percussion at 12:30 p.m.
At 1:15 p.m., the Roberts Creek stage will welcome Ken Grunenberg on saxophone and John Parker Tolson on bass as they perform jazz interpretations. An appearance by The Empty Streets at 2:30 p.m. brings the Creek’s summer music series to a deep-rooted conclusion.
Patrons at both the Gibsons and Roberts Creek locations should remember to pack their own chairs, blankets, hydration and sources of shade in case of sunshine.
