Mystery author wins
Pender Harbour writer Elizabeth Elwood has been promoting her latest book of mystery stories, The Devil Gets His Due, most recently at the Festival of the Written Arts independent authors table. She has been nominated for the Community Theatre Coalition awards for her play Body and Soul and is happy to report that her play won in two of the four categories in which it was nominated. Lighting designer Miles Lavkulich won for best lighting design, and Elwood won for best sound design, along with friend Jacqollyne Keath who worked with her. “I was really delighted to receive the award for best sound,” she writes, “as it’s an area I love to work in – witness all the sound tracks for my marionette shows – and I’d written a mammoth number of sound effects and relevant music cues into the script.” Mystery fans will want to know that one of Elwood’s short stories has been picked up by the Ellery Queen Mystery Magazine and will be featured in their holiday edition this year.
