Kathy Page reads at the Arts Centre on Saturday, March 7.

Born in London, U.K. and now living on Salt Spring Island, Kathy Page is the author of several critically acclaimed novels and books of short fiction. Her latest work, Dear Evelyn, was the winner of Rogers Writers’ Trust Fiction Prize (2018) and she previously received awards both in the U.K. and Canada. She teaches fiction at Vancouver Island University.

Her eighth novel, Dear Evelyn opens in wartime London and tells the story of a working-class couple falling in love amid the chaos of a world in fury. Inspired by her own father’s wartime love letters, Page follows Harry and Evelyn’s passionate and uneasy 70-year marriage. This story of a marriage is told with unsparing reality, a depiction of the erosive action of time and of the transitory nature of early passion. “He disagreed about too much reminiscing being a bad thing. He wanted to explain to her when she came next (soon, soon!) that reminiscence was one of the better uses of time when your movements were limited, though hers weren’t yet, of course.”

Page is presenting her work at the Arts Centre in Sechelt (Medusa and Trail) on Saturday, March 7 at 7:30 p.m. This reading is part of a series offered by the Sunshine Coast Arts Council. Admission is by donation.
