Fir set for band battle

Roxy Cabaret
Fir
Sunshine Coast youth band Fir will compete in a Vancouver battle of the bands contest, Feb. 24.

Fir has been invited to compete in the Battle of the Bands presented this Saturday at 2:30 p.m. at Vancouver’s Roxy Cabaret, 932 Granville St.

Members of Fir are drummer Ryan McLeod, 16, and brothers James Allcock, 18 (guitarist) and Greg Allcock, 16 (bassist/singer).

The band has been playing together for about two years and has gained musical experience playing at local events including the Emerging Sounds concert at Sechelt’s Performing Arts festival last fall. All three performers have been taught by local Sunshine Coast musicians who have helped them master their instruments and given them the confidence to perform the band’s own songs at the competition.

Presented by Nimbus School of Recording and Media and the 2018 Juno Host Committee, the contest has 20 youth bands from across the Lower Mainland competing for prizes including $25,000 in Nimbus scholarships, a $1,000 gift certificate from Tom Lee Music and the opportunity to perform at a Juno-related event.
