From Far and Near, the Sunshine Coast Arts Centre’s latest exhibit, features the work of water colourist Hiroshi Shimazaki and acrylic painter Sheila Page.
“Far” in this exhibit is represented by the works of Shimazaki, centring on images created during 12 visits to India during the last 37 years. For Shimazaki, landscape painting offers “access to revelations of natural process, evocations of history and potentialities of human action embedded in place.” India is the country where he finds these attributes most readily revealed.
“Near” comes to us through the works of Sheila Page. Her theme is the landscape beneath our feet: the importance and complexity of the natural world beneath us. The images are greatly enlarged representations of organic subjects found on the beach.
“Humble natural objects on the beach have been shaped by waves and weather into arrangements that reflect the power of their environment,” Page said.
Both artists plan to be on hand at the gallery Saturdays during the run of the exhibit. Please contact the Sunshine Coast Arts Council at 604-885-5412 for exact times and days or for further information.
Musical AGM
The Sunshine Coast Festival of the Performing Arts (FOPA) is planning for its 42nd festival, beginning with their annual general meeting this Saturday, Nov. 1 at the Sunshine Coast Arts Centre beginning at 4 p.m.
