Nikki Weber and the MellowTones, now in their eighth year, are once again performing at The Club on Sunday, Sept. 11 at 7 p.m. This group swings in tight harmony to classic jazz standards, from contemporary to blues. There will be soloists, duos, a trio and a quartet formed from the group, to add to their musical repertoire.
Again the MellowTones have been invited to participate in the Powell River Jazz Summit next April. This will be their third appearance where they have "wowed" the audience of young jazz students and enthusiasts.
Last year the MellowTones recorded the CD Jazzin' on the Sunshine Coast with Michael Creber at the keyboard. Creber has played for many well-known artists, including k.d. Lang, Cindy Lauper and The Rankin Family. He has performed on the Johnny Carson Show, Saturday Night Live and the Grammy Awards, and for U.S. President Clinton's first inauguration. Last December Creber and his wife produced their 10th annual Magic of Christmas concert at the Queen Elizabeth Theatre. The MellowTones were invited to perform with them. This was the largest audience the group has performed for, and it was a thrill of a lifetime.
Tickets are $12, at Tale-wind Books and Coast Books. Proceeds go to the Gibsons and Sechelt food banks.
