Coast Academy preps for fundraiser

Winter Dance

The Coast Academy of Dance (CAD) is happy to present its fifth bi-annual Winter Dance exhibition on Feb. 8 at Gibsons Heritage Playhouse with performances at 5 and 8 p.m.

The show will highlight the dancers who are members of the pre-professional program: Delia Anderson, Zofia Baturin, Jaime Butler, Molly Carpenter, Kali McLean, Cora Nelson, Kristie Sita, Zoe Spry-White and Emily Stoddart. These young women dance between 15 and 20 hours a week in preparation for teaching degrees and the possibility of careers as professional dancers.

There will also be more than 40 dancers from the Coast Academy’s senior advanced classes who will perform alongside the pre-professional dancers.

Winter Dance promises something for everyone as it will include ballet, pointe, modern, contemporary, jazz, street jazz, tap and hip hop with choreography by CAD teachers Ivana Cappelletto, Astrid Eckerle, Christina Fitchett, Kathleen Holmes, Becky Izad, Deborah Izad, Julie Izad, Shirley Jackson and Tarah Kalman.

Pre-professional dancers Delia, Zofia, Molly, Kali, Kristie and Emily have also taken on the roles of choreographers for the first time.

All funds raised will go towards bursaries for graduating dance students.

Tickets are on sale at the Dance Studio at 5645 Wharf Avenue in Sechelt from 3 to 6 p.m. Monday to Wednesday and 2:30 to 5:30 p.m. Thursday, at Starbucks Sechelt and from the pre-professional dancers. Tickets will also be sold at the theatre on Feb. 8. Tickets are $15 for adults and $12 for students.
