The Sunshine Coast Arts Council presents two local artists at the Sunshine Coast Arts Centre Gallery.

Sechelt resident Noel Silver presents a body of work entitled The Human Pattern, and Una Bachinski of Roberts Creek presents Ephemerae: Rediscovering the Forgotten Land. These exhibitions are at the Arts Centre from April 5 to 30.

Bachinski exhibits mixed media works, each creating a treasure hunt for the viewer with layers of hidden images and words. Her explorations combine paint, photos, text fragments, calligraphy and the ephemerae collected from her travels; reflected in these works is her love of travel and discovery.

"This body of work is about mapping out destiny, about finding the path that leads one back home," Bachinski said. The use of Buddhist text and imagery is an integral part of the layers she creates in her landscapes of the soul.

Silver's artwork is influenced by his travels and by his study of Tibetan Buddhism. He has made five journeys to Asia. The Human Pattern is a collection of his recent large oil paintings. These works acknowledge the global consciousness in a style that layers patterns fusing abstraction and realism. He strives to create images that express the dynamic between form and formlessness, the play of impermanence and time and the connections between people.

"It is crucial to our survival that we recognize and nurture our kinship to the natural world, for the pattern of life that forms us is identical to the pattern that forms our planet earth," Silver said.

An Artists' Reception will be held on Wednesday, April 5, from 7 to 9 p.m. The Sunshine Coast Arts Centre is on the corner of Trail and Medusa in Sechelt; hours are Wednesday to Saturday 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Sundays from 1 to 4 p.m.The SCAC Gallery is also a piano venue for the Sunshine Coast Festival of the Performing Arts April 19 to 21.
