The Sunshine Coast Skating Club, Canadian Association for the Advancement of Women and Sport and Physical Activity (CAAWS) and the Sunshine Coast Regional District are pleased to announce the upcoming 'Women In Leadership' workshops on Saturday, April 28 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Gibsons and Area Community Center.

The workshops are connected to provincial and national initiatives that advance women's leadership, not just in sport and recreation, but for any women already in or wanting to be in a female leadership position. These workshops are not just for adults, young teens can benefit from learning how to influence change as well as conflict resolution.

Presenting Influencing Change and Conflict Resolution is Irene Schell who has worked in amateur sport administration since 1989, and is currently the event and technology manager for the BC Games Society.

Presenting 'Volunteers; How to Get 'em, How to keep 'em' is Wendy Martin-Stroyan who is the current chair of the BC Coast Region of Skate Canada.

The workshops are open to all women, but are specifically recommended for ages 11 and up. The daylong seminar will also meet some of the requirements for current high school volunteer or HACE hours and teen participants can pick up a signed participation letter for your school after the seminar has concluded.

If you are currently a coach or wanting to become a coach in women's or co-ed sports on the Coast, or in any type of a leadership role with women, this workshop can provide you with valuable tools to help you become a better leader.

The minimal $10 registration fee covers coffee provided by Tim Horton's, and lunch. Registration is on-line at www.scrd.ca or you can register in person at either GAACS or the Sechelt Aquatic Centre.
