Snow conditions on Dakota Ridge have been excellent this year. Snow came early for December holiday magic, sunshine and cold days in January made for fast ski conditions, and February starts off with a dump of fresh powder. Whether you are a season pass holder or have not yet made it up to our local Nordic ski area, Sunday, Feb. 23 is your opportunity to join in the fun. The Tetrahedron Outdoor Club is excited to welcome you to the 7th Annual Sunshine Coast Loppet at Dakota Ridge Winter Recreation Area.
What is a loppet? It’s a group ski…a chance to be with a supportive fun-loving community in the snow. “For those who want to race, you can race. For those who want to ski with friends, you can ski with friends and have a great time,” said race director Simon Reznick. “Costumes are encouraged. It’s all about having fun outside in the snow.”
Adult events offer a choice of a 15km, 5km or 2.5 km course. A new event this year is a 4 x 2.5km relay. After the individual events, grab three friends and make a relay team for a final run with everyone cheering you on.
Kids are an important part of the Sunshine Coast Loppet. The event wouldn’t be possible without the support of Dakota Ridge Nordics and its volunteers. The youngest skiers, starting at the age of three, will ski a 100m course. Older kids can choose between 1km and 2.5km distances.
Registration information can be found at http://sunshinecoastloppet.ca/.
Organizers look forward to seeing everyone enjoying the trails of Dakota Ridge.
