Sunshine Coast ElderCollege has released its Fall 2023 program, which starts at the end of August. The first course is the popular Geology of Thormanby Island.

After the challenges of COVID, SC ElderCollege is celebrating  a successful 23 years of operations and offers 14 courses this fall semester, which include, Conversation Café, The Amazing Life and Times of the Pacific Salmon, Adventures in Travel, Strategies for Living and Dying and many more. Expert lecturers are drawn from the community and are volunteers as are the facilitators and organizers. As Isaac Asimov said, “Education is something that is never finished.”

This year’s free, annual, community wide, Clifford Smith Memorial Lecture in October by Dr. Val Napoleon, University of Victoria, is both timely and relevant: Indigenous Law and Conversations Across Generations.

Courses are open to the over 55s – the Coast’s largest population, with the highest projected population growth, all of which contributes to the relevance of SC ElderCollege, an organization that creates the opportunity to learn, engage and socialize. Classes are in-person and on Zoom and are held in both Sechelt and Gibsons.

SC ElderCollege is a non-profit society funded solely by course fees.  It operates on a break-even basis and receives no grants no grants or donations.

Courses are $35. Registration opens at 8 a.m., Aug. 14. Payment for registration can be made online via the PayPal payment system. (You do not need a PayPal account.) You must pre-register. There are class size limits.
