Join Jack Adams at a Sunshine Coast Natural History Society meeting, 7:30 p.m., on Nov. 2, at the Sunshine Coast Arts Centre. You will learn about Adams and his wife Marilyn sailing and kayaking local waters since their retirement here a dozen years ago. He will cover some of the adventures they have had in sailing through the Gulf Islands and Desolation Sound, and kayaking on the west coast of Vancouver Island from the Deer Island Group to Esperanza Inlet. Adams’s talk will demonstrate why this area is known as a world class cruising ground for sailors throughout the world.
Adams has been the Past Commander, Sunshine Coast Power & Sail Squadron, and Vice Commodore of the Gibsons Yacht Club. As a youngster, he sailed Snipes, a popular international class racing boat in the ‘50s. His learning to sail consisted of a lot of trial and error, some of which was painful – both to himself and others! Later, he began racing as crew on larger boats. Prior to retiring to the Coast, he served for more than 30 years with the Canadian International Development Agency. He and Marilyn were posted to various Latin American and African countries. They have owned two cruising sloops, the first in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, where they sailed the Indian Ocean; the second on the Sunshine Coast, on the doorstep of some of the most scenic cruising grounds in the world!
Coffee and cookies will be served at the meeting. Visitors are welcome.
