Beginning Jan. 6, the students of Pender Harbour Secondary School’s Grade 12 Workforce class, participated in the Toastmasters Youth Leadership Program, facilitated by Laurel Sukkau with the assistance of Johanna Rzepa.

The eight-week course guided them through the fundamentals of communication and leadership, including plenty of speaking practice. These young people, already well-prepared to take their place in the adult world, readily absorbed the material and demonstrated enthusiasm and ease with public speaking and leadership.

The five students with their certificates are from left to right: Keanu Kaessler, Ross Corman, Lauren Bychkowsky, Kylie Halverson and center bottom, Paige Frocklage. Not pictured are Julien Wiese and Ben Ellerton.  Laurel and Johanna are on the far right and left respectively.

Over the past 15 years more than 500 Toastmaster certificates have been presented to youth on the Sunshine Coast, through the three secondary schools, Girl Guides and Air Cadets. Our young people deserve to have their voices heard, indeed, our future depends on it!  Thanks to the Youth Leadership Program and the dedicated Sunshine Coast Toastmasters, this is an ever-expanding reality.
