The Sunshine Coast Conservation Association (SCCA) is inviting the public to its annual Friends of Sunshine Coast Conservation Association (FOSCCA) event at the Sunshine Coast Arts Centre in Sechelt on Tuesday, May 15, from 5 to 7:30 p.m. The social is an opportunity for the SCCA to thank members, volunteers and local businesses for their support over the course of the year.

This event also marks the beginning of the two-week exhibition of the selected artists for the SCCA's 2013 fundraising calendar, as well as the works of the featured artist from the 2012 calendar, board member Tella Sametz. The official opening for the two-week exhibit will be held the following evening, Wednesday, May 16, starting at 6 p.m.

The winners of the calendar competition whose work will be exhibited are: Bob Evermon, Allan Forest, Don Khan, Carl Olsen, Alan Sirulnikoff and Frank Thorburn. Their work has been chosen to share SCCA's vision of biodiversity on the Sunshine Coast with the public in the SCCA's 2013 calendar.

The SCCA represents various biodiversity issues on the Sunshine Coast, has become the unifying voice of conservation for local residents since 1996 and is the environmental umbrella organization for more than 30 groups. When conservation problems arise, people turn to the SCCA for help to interact with government and industry and to raise public awareness.

Also being presented at the FOSCCA event will be this year's winner of the John Hind-Smith Environmental Award, recognizing an outstanding environmentalist.

This is the first year that the social event is opened to the community. If you are interested in the environment and would like to meet like-minded people, please come and join them at the event. For further information, contact [email protected] or visit www.thescca.ca.
