The Sunshine Coast Conservation Association (SCCA) is welcoming nominations for the John Hind-Smith Award.

The award, established in 2006, honours this environmentalist. A founding member of the Salmon Enhancement Society and the Tetrahedron Alliance and a life-time member of the Sunshine Coast Natural History Society, Hind-Smith inspired generations of community environmental advocacy on the Sunshine Coast.

The successful recipient of the award must have demonstrated:

A long and enduring service to the protection of biodiversity within the greater Sunshine Coast region.

A high level of personal integrity and a commitment to scientific accuracy.

The ability to inspire others to appreciate and protect biodiversity.

Success in the protection of biodiversity within the greater Sunshine Coast region.

The ability to act with grace and respect for all.

Nominees are not required to be members of the SCCA. The SCCA asks that nominations are sent in with appropriate support material documenting why the nominee should be considered. This material will be a significant factor in the jury's selection process.

Submissions must be sent to SCCA chair Jason Herz via email [email protected] by April 30. The award will be presented at this year's Friends of the Sunshine Coast Conservation Association function on Tuesday, May 15, at the Sunshine Coast Arts Centre in Sechelt.
