Are you feeling blue? Do you have Seasonal Affective Disorder? If so, Sechelt Public Library can help.
Starting Dec. 6, Sechelt Public Library will lend out SAD lamps to those affected by Seasonal Affective Disorder. Researchers believe this type of therapy can lessen symptoms of SAD and can contribute to improved mood.
“Sechelt Library is committed to reducing barriers to improved quality of life,” says chief librarian Elle Archibald. “We are incredibly grateful to the Sunshine Coast Community Foundation for providing funds for this lending program through the Community Health and Mental Resource Collection grant.”
Sechelt Library is also partnering with Pender Harbour Health Centre to ensure that those in Pender Harbour can borrow a lamp without physically coming into Sechelt Library. Lamps will be available at the Health Centre starting on Dec. 13.
Those with certain medical conditions should not use light therapy including people with glaucoma, cataracts, or bipolar affective disorder. Those interested should consult a family physician before borrowing.
For those who can benefit, lamps will be available for a three-week loan period.
