The Sunshine Coast Botanical Garden Plant Sale this Sunday, May 4, is the biggest plant sale on the Coast.
Each year hundreds of shrewd shoppers gather to find plants at this annual event at 5941 Mason Road, West Sechelt, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. The plant sale volunteers work hard to improve the sale each year. This year there will be a larger assortment of trees and shrubs, in addition to the surprising selection of perennials, grasses, food plants, herbs and lilies. You’ll find plants suitable to every growing condition from seaside to forest, dry to boggy, shady to filled with sunshine.
Eager gardeners arrive early for the best selection, but later in the morning, you’ll have a more relaxed experience, with time to talk to experienced gardeners. They’ll help you select the best plants for your particular gardening situation. The volunteers are Sunshine Coast gardeners themselves, so they have lots of advice about choosing plants. They’ve coped with visiting deer, outflow winter winds, droughts and dogs. There are beautiful plants to grow in any situation.
Master gardeners will be on hand to answer your gardening questions. They have information about removing invasive plants, controlling pests safely and amending soil — all the quandaries that come up in gardens.
Admission is free, but bring your cash, cheque book or credit card. You will find rare treasures and bargains. Bring a box, barrow or bin to tote your plants, or leave them in the plant hold area while you continue shopping or visiting the Garden.
