Some 25 per cent of the global population struggles daily to secure clean, accessible water. The chore of collecting this water is usually borne by women and girls, who often walk several kilometres every day carrying heavy buckets of water on their heads. On March 22 (World Water Day), the Rotary Clubs of Sunshine Coast Sechelt and Gibsons hosted the Roll for Water fundraiser in Davis Bay to raise awareness of this global issue. The event highlighted the Hippo Roller, a simple, innovative device that can carry 90 litres of water at a time in a plastic drum that rolls along the ground, saving time and labour for countless women worldwide.
