Photos: Cops for Cancer raises $43,000 on the Sunshine Coast

Each year, our committee of volunteers, Sunshine Coast Cops for Cancer, proudly supports the rider(s) from the Sunshine Coast RCMP to raise as much as possible for this cause, 90 per cent of which comes from this community.

This past Sunday, we welcomed the Cops for Cancer Tour de Coast to Sechelt. These dedicated first responders are participating in the 26th annual cycling event for pediatric cancer research and Camp Good Times. A colourful, joyful group of  first responders arrived from detchments and stations across the Lower Mainland, on day three of a seven-day, 800 km bike ride, raising money with the Canadian Cancer Society.

Each year, our committee of volunteers, Sunshine Coast Cops for Cancer, proudly supports the rider(s) from the Sunshine Coast RCMP to raise as much as possible for this cause, 90 per cent of which comes from this community. Businesses, families, store owners, entrepreneurs, artisans and community members alike, along with the local police and fire personnel, continuously step up to donate goods, services, time and money to make events like our flagship fundraiser, The Ladies Red Serge Gala, a stunning success. Without this community, there would be no Sunshine Coast Cops for Cancer; your generosity astounds us.

After Sunday’s wonderful display of community spirit, we wrapped up our 2023 fundraising season and the committee presented this year’s Sunshine Coast RCMP tour de coast rider, Cst. Wiebe, with a cheque written to the Canadian Cancer Society for $43,000. The riders and crew were floored.

I want to thank the amazing people of the Sunshine Coast for their benevolence; you are the ones who made this possible. We were proud to donate this money on behalf of each of you who have supported us. And to the indefatigable ladies of the volunteer committee: like the little ones we fundraise for, we are small but mighty.
