Sunday at 2 p.m. at the School of Music, John Reischman and the Jaybirds! This Grammy award-winning mandolinist light-heartedly refers to his twice-Juno nominated group, The Jaybirds, as a “gateway bluegrass band”–– roots music with enough drive and energy to be true bluegrass, but folky enough to be perfect for any audience. Presented by the Pender Harbour Music Society. Tickets available on the PHMS website $30. 

The Pender Harbour Women’s Connection will be celebrating their 26th anniversary Feb. 11. This organization has been bringing women together for companionship, entertainment and informative presentations for over a quarter of a century. Please join them as they venture into a new phase of their long-established Harbour organization. Doors open at 9:30 a.m. at the School of Music. Presentations begin at 10 a.m. $4 drop-in fee or $15 annual membership. Refreshments provided. 

Seniors Initiatives for the month of February will offer favourite activities including carpet bowling Wednesdays 1 to 3 p.m., chair yoga Mondays and Fridays 11 a.m. to noon, both at the Hall; and chair yoga Wednesdays at Sarah Wray Hall 11 a.m. to noon. Drop in for activities $3. Harbourside Friendships 10:30 a.m. Feb. 6 come craft Valentines to give to MPES students. Lunch served at noon for $10. 

The first meeting of the Pender Harbour Wildlife Society will include the 2025 Annual General Meeting (AGM) Tuesday, Feb. 18, 7 p.m. at the PHSS Food Room. The evening will kick off with a special guest presentation by Nicholas Scapillati from the Grizzly Bear Foundation. Doors open at 6:45 p.m., with the presentation starting at 7 p.m. Refreshments, a raffle and a brief AGM for the PHWS will follow. Everyone is welcome to attend. In previous years, there have been challenges meeting quorum for the AGM, all members are encouraged to participate. 

Exciting news from the Pender Harbour Blues Society, tickets are now on sale for The Paperboys happening on March 15 at the Pender Harbour Community Hall. The Paperboys performed at last year’s festival to a full house that stayed on the dance floor from the first song until the last. The Paperboys are a Canadian, world-class touring band. You can purchase tickets on the website www.phblues.ca or at the EarthFair Bookstore. This year will be the 20th Annual PH Blues Festival June 6, 7 and 8, a reunion style festival, inviting back some of the most memorable musicians who have performed at the festival over the years. Confirmed are Brickhouse, Brent Parkin, Gary Comeau, Brandon Isaak, Marcus Mosely and Joe Rotundo along with the fabulous House Band, The Grand Koolios. More info to follow, tickets will be on sale for the festival early April.
