Spring equinox occurs when the sun crosses the celestial equator going from south to north. On the equinox, the length of day and night is nearly equal in all parts of the world, and gardeners go crazy!

Find out what you can use to build your soil to support healthy and vibrant plants at Pender Harbour Garden Club’s March 27 presentation at 1 p.m., at the School of Music. Catherine Dale is a certified Organic Landcare Professional and managed Metro Vancouver/GVRD’s Compost Demonstration Garden where her interest in composting and love of worms and soil critters grew alongside the flourishing garden. Her philosophy is “feed the soil, not the plant”. PHGC Annual memberships $15 are due this first meeting of the year, includes a discount card for plants at most garden stores. Drop-in fee $5 complimentary tea and goodies are served.
Join the Pender Harbour Reading Centre for the 2023 AGM and launch of their second annual Books ‘n Blooms Garden Tour fundraiser on Monday, April 17 at 2 p.m. at the School of Music. Refreshments will be served along with an exciting free raffle. All those interested in the Reading Centre are invited to come and have input on the Reading Centre’s future.
The Pender Harbour Community Club is having their Annual Plant & Garden Sale on April 29 at the Hall. Admission by donation gets you a door prize ticket. The prizes are fantastic. A professional horticulturist will be on hand. The Hall kitchen will be open serving lunch and refreshments. Community Club ($5 individual, $10 family) & Garden Club ($15) annual memberships will be available as well as tickets to the annual Garden Tour. Call out for donations of plants, plant starts, garden items, birdhouses and feeders, garden furniture and decor. Pick up is available. Also seeking donations of baked goodies for the kitchen and bake sale.
Tables available for vendors (items do not have to be garden items) are $25 for an 8’ table or $15 for a 3’). Book one now with Lesley at 778-840-1692.
This event is a fundraiser for new, improved, energy efficient lighting for the Community Hall. Everyone’s support is greatly appreciated.
The 20th Annual April Tools Wooden Boat Challenge will take place the same day April 29. You can register your team of four now, online, at the Pender Harbour Living Heritage Society website. Cash prizes for the first three teams (above water), across the finish line. This festival is a full day of exhibits, food, kids activities and the exciting race to build boats from secret building materials and the outrageously entertaining races. Event location: Millennium Park at the Madeira Park Government Dock.
The clock is ticking. If you need help with your income tax preparation Volunteer Income Tax Program is available until April 30. This is a free service for eligible clients.
