William (Bill) Hamill passed away peacefully in his sleep in the early hours of August 17, 2024, just four days shy of his 101st birthday. In his own words, he lived "a remarkable life." Born in Long Branch, Ontario, to William and Mary (née Dempsey) Hamill, Bill was the seventh of ten children. He was predeceased by his parents, all nine of his siblings, his first wife Sarah LaBerta (née Parrish), his long-time partner Thelma Weeks, and his beloved son Lawrence (Larry) Craig. He is lovingly remembered by his son Bob, daughter Mary Lou, and his five grandchildren: Robin (Alison), Brian (Lorelei), Alex (Cassandra), Taylor, and Meghan (Koray), along with his great-grandson, Theodore (Teddy) Lawrence. Bill is also fondly remembered by Thelma's daughters, Marion and Barbara and long-time close friend Don Hall. Bill's life spanned nearly a century of history, from growing up during the Great Depression to serving as an upper rear gunner on Lancaster Bombers with the RCAF during World War II, flying 30 missions over Europe. He went on to have a distinguished career with the Canadian National Railway, including five years in Tanzania, representing CN and working for CIDA. In October 2015, Bill moved to Gibsons, where he became a cherished local presence, volunteering at the Gibsons Public Market and taking his daily walks around town. When asked about the secret to his longevity, he would proudly say, "Everything in moderation." A celebration of his life will be held in the near future. Thank you for the memories.
