Obituary: Steven Carl Anderson

'Steve loved his family and his amazing network of friends, from both the Sunshine Coast and Vancouver, who shared in his excitement for sports, sports trivia, and 90’s-2000’s rock, hip-hop and new country music. He was always up for a sunny patio or a good game of crib.'

Steven Carl Anderson

Loving son, brother, partner, friend and colleague, passed away at Lions Gate Hospital in North Vancouver, BC on the evening of February 28, 2023 at the age of 40.

The prince of the family, Steve was born in Port Alberni, BC on January 11, 1983 and moved to Gibsons at the age of four. Growing up in Langdale, he attended Langdale Elementary and Elphinstone Secondary schools where, even at a young age, he possessed an analytic mind for stats and facts - especially when it came to sports. He was an all-star baseball player with Gibsons Minor Ball and eventually moved to the North Shore to play collegiate baseball at Capilano College (University) in 2001.

Calling North Vancouver home, Steve traded his baseball bat for a golf club. Following a substantial career in hospitality management, it was through the Food and Beverage department that he started working at the Capilano Golf and Country Club. He quickly transitioned to the Golf Operations team in a retail merchandising position and, combining his passions for first-class golf and high-end athletic wear, he most recently was promoted to his dream role as Golf Retail Manager of the Club’s highly anticipated new Pro Shop. Steve had found his people. He loved working at the Capilano Golf and Country Club, so it was no surprise that it is also where he would come to meet the love of his life, Jax.

Steve loved his family and his amazing network of friends, from both the Sunshine Coast and Vancouver, who shared in his excitement for sports, sports trivia, and 90’s-2000’s rock, hip-hop and new country music. He was always up for a sunny patio or a good game of crib. He enjoyed celebrating with a great steak or charcuterie board, red wine, craft beer, and he could make one hell of an old fashioned. A clever wordsmith himself, Steve had a deep appreciation for stand-up comedy and a well-crafted joke.

Steve will whole-heartedly be missed and is survived by his parents, Carl and Joan; partner Jacqueline; sisters Melissa (Paul), Gayla (Peter) and Cheryl; nieces Sierra, Jayden and Lynden; as well as many family members and friends.

He was the best brother by par!

In lieu of sending flowers, the family gratefully requests you please consider a donation to the hospital of your choice.
