Kelly passed away peacefully at home in his sleep March 10, 2023 at age 62.
Predeceased by his parents, Dody and Leo McGrath, and his mother-in-law Pam Spence.
Survived by his wife Judith Spence, her father Andy and her siblings Shirley (Bryan), Geoffrey (Wendy), nieces and nephews; and Kelly's siblings Gary (Linda), Ric (Kathryn), Roy (Marnie) and Katie (Garnett), and many nieces and nephews.
Born in New Westminster, he grew up in the family home on Dansey Avenue in Coquitlam. His first home was on Smith Avenue in Coquitlam until moving to Sargent Road in Gibsons in 1996.
Kelly worked at Columbia Newspaper then Agency Press before starting at BC Ferries on the Horseshoe Bay to Langdale run. He transferred to the Northern routes and finally the Prince Rupert to Skidegate run. He rose from Deck Hand to the rank of Watch Keeping Mate and occasionally had worked as an Officer during his career, retiring at 55 years of age.
As a youth Kelly was an enthusiastic soccer player, hockey player and referee, and continued to be a dedicated sports fan. He was an avid reader, history buff and storyteller and loved his annual time at hunting camp in and around Vanderhoof. Kelly and Judith enjoyed spending time at their cabin and walking the beaches on Haida Gwaii.
