Our beloved Heinz passed away peacefully at Sechelt Hospital after a brief illness. Born in Bern, Switzerland, to Charles and Margarethe Tock, Heinz lived a rich, vibrant life that spanned two continents. Overcoming a challenging childhood, Heinz went on to earn two master's degrees and find his true calling as a professor of mathematics at the University of Applied Sciences in Biel. His passion for teaching and dedication to his students' success, with many of his students fondly recalling his lively, humorous lectures, and some staying in touch with him throughout his life. His commitment to education extended beyond the classroom, as he rose to become President of the Swiss Lecturers' Association. He was happiest piloting a recreational plane, but also loved boating, riding his motorcycle, hiking, and singing. He was the founder of one of Switzerland's first Sports Combat Clubs which earned him an Honorary Membership in the International Practical Shooting Confederation (IPSC). In 1983, Heinz and Marta met during a kayaking vacation in France. They married the following year. Thus, Heinz gained a daughter, Michaela, and later a grandson, Timothy, who represented the family he had always wished for. Marta and Heinz made their home in Magglingen, sharing their lives with their cherished canine companions. Upon Heinz's retirement in 1997, the couple moved to the Sunshine Coast, where they made new friends and enjoyed travelling across Europe, South Africa, the USA, the Caribbean, and Hawaii. Even as health challenges, including several strokes and chronic pain, tested him in later years, Heinz's unwavering spirit and sense of humour shone through. He lived true to his motto, "I did it my way," until his final moments. Heinz's death leaves a deep void in our lives. His memory will forever be cherished by his family, friends, and all those fortunate enough to have known him. In accordance with the wishes of the deceased, no funeral service will be held.
