With heavy hearts, we share the news of the sudden loss of Greg Gray. On January 23, his boat was found adrift, and he was reported missing. The Coast Guard found him shortly thereafter in our coastal waters.

Born in Winnipeg to a military family, Greg was the youngest of three boys. Greg grew up in numerous Canadian towns before his family settled in Vancouver in the early '60s. After high school, he moved north to Kitimat, where he fell in love with boats and his first wife, Laurie. Together, they moved to Jervis Inlet and had their son Jarvis. Later, he would meet Annie and start a family. They lived on a floathouse in Jervis Inlet and farmed oysters before moving to Earl's Cove.

Boating and family were Greg's life. Jervis Inlet was his favourite place and his final resting place. He will be remembered for sharing the bounty of the sea, his storytelling, and how he showed up for the people in his life.

Greg is survived by his four children, Jarvis, James, Charlotte and Amelia and his beloved boat of 30+ years, the Arctic Courier. A potluck celebration of life will be held at the Egmont Community Hall on Saturday, May 3, at 1pm.
