December 6, 1987 - May 16, 2024.

With intense grief, we announce the loss of Derek Norman Dix, beloved son of Sandi and Bill Dix, and cherished brother of Landon Dix. Derek passed away surrounded by his close friends and family, leaving us far too soon but having lived each day to its fullest.

Derek, born and raised on the North Shore. He spent many a summer at the family cabin in Halfmoon Bay. He graduated with a Degree in Bachelor of Design from the Alberta College of Art & Design in Calgary.

Derek was a fearless thrill-seeker, embracing every challenge with courage and an infectious sense of humour that endeared him to everyone he met. His friends and family will forever remember the joy and laughter he brought into their lives, and each person who knew Derek has their own cherished memories of his kindness and adventurous spirit.

His passions for design, photography, biking, and the outdoors were the cornerstones of his vibrant life. Derek’s work as a photographer and graphic designer beautifully captured his love for adventure and the natural world, leaving a legacy that will continue to inspire. His creativity led to numerous visual communication projects that stand as a testament to his talent and the unique brand he created. He deeply valued the community around him and treasured the friendships he made along the way.

Derek’s eight-year battle with a cancerous brain tumor showcased his incredible strength and unwavering ability to find joy in life’s small moments. His courage and resilience were truly remarkable, and his smile never wavered.

Derek’s memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him. He was an extraordinary human being, leaving an indelible mark on the world and the lives he touched.

Celebration of Life will be held on June 22,2024 at 2:00PM. Cypress Creek Lodge, 8500 Cypress Bowl Road, West Vancouver.
