On July 11 Gary Gilbert hosted a fundraiser for Schwarz at the Lighthouse Pub that was well attended and brought in just over $5,000, buying one more week. And an online fundraiser for Schwarz brought in another two week’s worth of funds.

It looks like Rose Schwarz’s chronic Lyme disease may be cured, but doctors in Mexico are ordering more thorough tests to be certain.

Doctors also say they are seeing an improvement in her weekly blood work and note she is finally starting to gain a little bit of weight but “her body still needs to repair and rebuild from the years of stress it has been under.”

Schwarz has been suffering with the effects of Lyme disease for 12 years, only recently discovering the cause.

Her mother Tani and father Gary Gilbert have been fundraising to keep Schwarz in the Baja Medgate facility in Mexico, where she is currently receiving care, but the cost is about $5,000 a week and money is running out.

The family is “incredibly grateful” but asking for more help from anyone who can give. If more money can’t be raised, Schwarz will be coming home on Aug. 10.

So far Schwarz has received more than 150 million stem cells and is undergoing daily nutritional IVs and iodine replacement therapy. She has also been able to have doctors investigate the cause of some of her symptoms, which include debilitating headaches, an inability to gain weight and severe nausea.

“I really want to stay because the doctors are trying to figure out everything that’s wrong with me and there are more tests available down here,” Schwarz said in a video she posted to the Continuing Fight to Save Rose Facebook page.

Even if the Lyme disease is gone, Rose has a long road to recovery.
