Is Elphinstone on the naughty, or nice list?

“It’s not creepy to slowly cruise up and down the streets of this gorgeous little neighbourhood, if the kids are the ones asking to do it every year… right?”

I explore Elphinstone for fun, so I would like to thank everyone for welcoming me to Elphinstone Chronicles this year with open arms. It gives me the ultimate excuse to delve into all the things in our various neighbourhoods and meet the friendly faces there. When you cruise your community frequently, you can see it evolving and I enjoy finding humour in the little changes.

And discovering these changes certainly keeps me on my toes. Some days I think Area E is on the Naughty List. Was I just writing a few weeks ago about flooding from an atmospheric river or was that about the stage four drought affecting us? This week I am convinced we made the Nice List. Santa came early to Area E so he could tinker with the traffic light signals at Reed and North Road. Ferry traffic be damned, I am reveling in an endless stream of green favouring the safe passage of Reed Road motorists. Thanks, Santa. Now will you use those toy tools to properly repair that collapsing bit of road at Reed and Payne?

On the opposite side of the Area E boundary, we took a snowy drive through Woodcreek Park to seek out some Christmas light displays with our kiddos. It’s not creepy to slowly cruise up and down the streets of this gorgeous little neighbourhood, if the kids are the ones asking to do it every year… right? We do love admiring the variety of lights and props people put up for the season. Whispering Firs Park was a winter wonderland, a perfect lawn to build an army of snowmen. This park at the entrance of Woodcreek is a hidden treasure on the Coast anytime of the year. It has a short trail leading into the woods with a variety of exercise stops along the way, perfect for physical activity in the month of January before we break our New Year resolutions.

If you are looking for more fun in the New Year, there is buzz in the air that the Elphinstone Community Association may put on a shaker in the next few weeks. If you live in the hood and would like to help put together a party for Area E, please contact the ECA with ideas or to volunteer. Their Facebook page is updated often with the latest news and events.

Thanks for a phenomenal year, folks. I would love to hear feedback, take suggestions on topics in our neighbourhood, and hear from all 3,883 residents of Elphinstone. Email me at [email protected]
