Sunshine Coast Association for Community Living (SCACL) and Persephone Brewing Company, a.k.a. the Beer Farm, are co-hosting a pre-screening party of “Freedom to Work,” a new microfilm produced by Inclusion BC, on Wednesday, Oct. 16 at 5:30 to 7 p.m. in celebration of Community Inclusion Month (October) in B.C.

“This poignant story told in this film is an example of how people with disability can thrive in the workplace when they are given the opportunity,” said Clarence Li, executive director of SCACL. “Inclusive employment practices are not only good for the bottom line, but they also can transform the workplace into a place of belonging regardless of our differences.  I think all employers on the Sunshine Coast should check out this film.”

Persephone Brewing Company is one of the many inclusive employers on the Coast and is featured in this film.  SCACL’s Supported Employment program supports people with developmental disabilities seeking employment.

Inclusion BC is a provincial organization that advocates for a world where everyone belongs, and people with intellectual and developmental disabilities have choice and control over the supports and services they need to flourish. It provides self-advocacy and family support, and work for systems-level inclusive change in communities across B.C.

“The relationship between SCACL and Persephone is a beautiful example of what can happen when a business and community organization work together to create workplaces that represent their communities. When inclusion, community, and dignity are prioritized, everyone wins,” said an Inclusion BC statement.

All are welcome to the pre-screening party. There will be snacks and refreshments.  Persephone’s tasting room and food service is also open.
