The Christmas spirit in the Harbour burned brightly with a spectacular show of lights this year for the annual Polar Express contest. The judges had a wonderful time touring the fantastic displays. Drumroll please, the 2021 Polar Express Champions are: first place Craig Schroeder, Middle Point; second place 13232 Dames Corner, Irvines Landing; third place 12561 Warnock Road, Madeira Park; fourth place Nigel and Karen 12756 Lagoon Road, Madeira Park; fifth place 4546 Sinclair Bay Road, Garden Bay; sixth place Shelby and Kyle, 4523 Rondeview Road, Madeira Park. Favourite decoration: Paul Nicholson’s smiling T-Rex chowing down on a Christmas present. There were also 10 honourable mentions. Thank you to all the amazing participants!
The Pender Harbour Rotary, a huge force of goodness in our community, will be donating money from their extraordinarily successful 50/50 Draw for the months of January and February to the care of our beautiful, aging, well-used and much-loved Pender Harbour Community Hall. As you can well imagine, the costs to keep the doors open have soared along with ongoing improvements and repairs. Buy your lucky tickets at penderharbourrotary.rafflenexus.com or Google Pender Harbour Rotary raffle or visit their Facebook page.
Because of COVID-19 cases accelerating, the Seniors Initiative activities at the Hall are cancelled for the remainder of January. Hopefully, following the update Jan. 18 from our provincial health officer Dr. Bonnie Henry, activities will resume in February.
There will be a COVID-19 vaccination drop-in clinic Jan. 14, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Madeira Park Legion for anyone needing a first or second shot.
Stay safe during these challenging times. Have a healthy, happy 2022!
