After looking at the forecast this morning, it appears summer is finally here to stay, just in time for Halfmoon Bay’s most significant outdoor events!

What’s Happening in Halfmoon Bay?

• The 56th Annual Halfmoon Bay Country Fair is happening this Sunday, July 14, from 12–8 p.m. at Cooper’s Green Park. Dive into a day packed with entertainment for all ages, live music, 35 vendors, various food vendors and a licenced area for 19+. There will also be a Shuttle Bus available. For more information, visit halfmoon-bay.ca

• Sargeant Bay Society (SBS) is hosting its annual Low Tide Beach Exploration with LeAnn Ennis on Sunday, July 21, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. This is a fun and informative event for all ages, but the kids, in particular, love it! With SBS’s President Rand Rudland and Dr. Donna Giberson, you can look at freshwater ecosystems through microscopes and watch freediver guest Neil dive and surface in the water.

Navigating my new role

As a self-professed extroverted-introvert, I’ve leaned more toward the introvert end of the spectrum in recent years. Avoiding events requiring small talk, I found ultimate contentment in just being in my backyard with my garden, chickens, and children (not necessarily in that order). Perhaps it was the pandemic, my change in the family dynamic, or a desire for privacy after years of sharing my life on a public platform. There’s never a shortage of things to do, and I’m not one to be bored and have countless projects on the go on any given day, but I’m very aware that I’ve become “too comfortable” in this reclusive state. Feeling a need to break out of my new shell drove me to accept this role as a community correspondent because self-pep-talks weren’t doing the trick. I needed a purpose.

Today, I received a visit from Rand Rudland, president of the Sargeant Bay Society, who dropped off a poster for the Low Tide Exploration event that I could display at my home stand. After briefly visiting with Rand, showing him my garden, and sharing our love of butterflies and bees, he gave me pamphlets on the butterflies and dragonflies in our area and a member registration form for the Sargeant Bay Society. This interaction is a perfect example of how getting out of your comfort zone promotes an opportunity for learning and growth. I’ve already filled out the form, and I assure you, I’ll now be on the lookout for Anise and Pale Swallowtail butterflies! Like all things, practice makes perfect, but I can feel myself slowly opening up again in a positive way, and I’m grateful to be here.

Contact me at [email protected] with questions and inquiries. If you’re a Halfmoon Bay business or would like to share a local event, you can add a poster or business card to the new bulletin board I’ve added to the Modern Hippie Home Stand at 7835 Eagle Drive, Halfmoon Bay. See you at the Country Fair!
