Work is under way to install a new fish ladder in Sargeant Bay.

Sargeant Bay’s new fish ladder is underway, and if you were at the park this week, you might have noticed the large aluminum contraption and viewing platform waiting to be installed. Sargeant Bay Society hoped to have it installed by the weekend, however, if it runs long, the park will remain closed, so keep that in mind if you plan to visit this weekend.

Mark your calendars—Lazy Daze Music Series will hold its second summer event at Coopers Green Park on Friday, Aug. 16, from 3 to 9 p.m. The theme will be “Latin Music,” with performers Graham Ord and Anna Lumiere at 4 p.m. and Susana Williams at 6 p.m. Tickets are $10 each for non-HMBCA members and kids are free. Food trucks will be on location, and beverages will be available in the Libations Lounge.

It’s peak farm/home stand season, and the Sunshine Coast has certainly seen a spike in these home-based businesses over the past few years! I’ve always loved visiting farm stands and dreamed of having my own someday. So, three years ago, that is exactly what I did. I called my go-to carpenter and said, “Hey, Dad, can you build me a farm stand?” Next thing you know, Modern Hippie Home Stand was a real thing!

You don’t need a farm to have a stand, hence why I decided to call mine a “Home Stand.” If you’re crafty, chef-y or a gardener with excess flowers or vegetables and have dreamed of having your own stand, too, here’s your sign to do it! We can never have enough, and it’s a great way to connect with the community and make a little extra cash.

I often have a new hobby on the go, so the Home Stand has been a fun way to share my garden, hobbies and recipes. Unfortunately, I haven’t been able to be open much this summer due to unforeseen circumstances that have consumed the majority of my time recently. That said, I will be open this weekend and for the remainder of the summer! So please stop by for some cut flowers, bug spray, sauces, soap and whatever else I feel like creating this week!

On your way over, check out the Swift Fox Farm stand on Redrooffs and the Sacred Earth Healing Arts stand at the end of Lohn. I’ve been bugging Justine to re-open her stand, Fawns, on Fawn Road because (I’m sure I speak for the community when I say this) we miss her baking!

The One-Straw Society has a great directory for sourcing local food, such as markets, farms, and farm stands on the Sunshine Coast.
