Halfmoon Happenings: Dance the Lazy Daze away

Hello, Halfmoon Bay. This week, I’m writing from Green Bay Family Camp in Kelowna (it’s only 9 a.m., and I’m already melting). We had been on the waitlist for months when a spot opened on Friday.

Music by 'Them Ordinary Things,' was very popular with the crowd gathered at the Halfmoon Bay Fair, July 14.

Hello, Halfmoon Bay. This week, I’m writing from Green Bay Family Camp in Kelowna (it’s only 9 a.m., and I’m already melting). We had been on the waitlist for months when a spot opened on Friday. Everything aligned perfectly, so we had to jump at the opportunity for distraction-free family time.

Unfortunately, because of this, I couldn’t attend the Halfmoon Bay Fair, but my beautiful, sun-shiny friend, Chelsea Staver, was there and here’s what she had to say: “The sun was shining, and kids joyfully ran around. The food vendors and local artisans did not disappoint; it was a wonderful opportunity to connect with the community and groove to music - a perfect blend of fun and enjoyment for all!”

What’s Happening in Halfmoon Bay?

The annual Low Tide Event is happening at Sargeant Bay this Sunday, July 21, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. This is a fun and informative event for all ages, but the kids, in particular, love it! You can look at freshwater ecosystems through microscopes and watch a free diver dive and surface in the ocean. Bring your bucket and sun hats!

HMB Health Care Auxiliary will be manning the thrift store on Cowrie Street this Sunday, July 21. This will be a fundraiser to support our HMB community programs such as HMB Community School Breakfast Program, Better at Home, Neighbours Helping Neighbours (Xmas drive), Pender and SC Food Banks and SC Community Services building campaign.

HMBCA Lazy Daze is happening next Friday, July 26 at Coopers Green. With a mix of dance, sing-along tunes, and delicious offerings from food trucks, these evenings are a perfect way to unwind. Featured beverages include beer, wine, and cider, creating a merry environment. Entry is just $10 per person, free for attendees under 19, and no charge for HBCA members. Bring your family and friends for these memorable summer nights!

That’s it for this week from me – my children are staring at me while I write this, waiting to go to the beach (which makes it take 10 times longer). By the way, shout out to all of the parents who are trying their best to make their kids’ summers fun and memorable, it can be a thankless job in the short run, often exhausting and expensive. Still, those happy memories and family experiences are building solid foundations for the teen and adult years, so cheers to you!
