Hi everyone! Hope you all had a wonderful week. As we navigate through these early weeks of the new year, we are faced with more COVID outbreaks, health orders and restrictions. As we have done in the past, we must continue to support and respect each other, be kind whenever possible and be sure to stay healthy and active. Although the weather may not be the best for outdoor activities, we can always pull on that rain coat, put on the walking shoes and head out for some fresh air. Even stepping outside for a few moments, stretching your arms out and breathing deeply can make a huge difference to your daily wellbeing.
Jan. 23 to 30 is Family Literacy week in B.C. Families are encouraged to connect by reading their favourite book, playing board games together, going out for a family hike or simply sitting and talking together. It has been noted that children’s literacy skills expand and grow much faster when families read, play and learn together. Family Literacy Week is a great opportunity to focus on dynamic ways to support these young minds.
The Halfmoon Bay Elementary Community School will be celebrating Family Literacy Week during the school week of Jan. 24 to 28, with many fun activities planned. There will be a community scavenger hunt, similar to last year with puzzles and activities hidden around Halfmoon Bay. Everyone is welcome to play! Instruction sheets will be available to pick up at the front of the school or at Welcome Woods Market. If you have any questions or would like more information, contact the school at 604-885-2318 or email Wendy White, community school coordinator, at [email protected].
With the most recent COVID public health orders, SD46 has advised that adult facility bookings will remain cancelled until at least Jan. 29 and hope to resume booking adult group activities on Monday, Jan. 31. This includes regularly scheduled pickleball on Tuesdays and Thursdays at the Halfmoon Bay Elementary Community School gym. Stay tuned for further updates.

Be safe, be gentle, and always be kind.
