Greetings Creekers
As you all know we have a provincial election coming up on Oct. 19. What were they thinking, don’t they know we have an Art Crawl that weekend? Art is important but so is voting so make sure you make time for both in your plans. If you are not registered to vote and are eligible you can do so, before Oct. 7, at elections.bc.ca, at your polling station on the day of election, or at an advance poll, with proper identification. In the meantime, there is an environmental all candidates forum at the Hall, this Sunday from 3 to 5 p.m. This meeting is sponsored by the Sunshine Coast Conservation Association and is your opportunity to see where local candidates stand on environmental issues. Written questions will be accepted at the meeting and read by a moderator.
It is the month of all things pumpkin and the Little Red Wagon Pumpkin Patch will be open very weekend this month from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. You will find cotton candy, popcorn, fresh cider, guest vendors and of course, pumpkins! Drop by 2025 Sunshine Coast Highway (near Leek Road), in the Creek.
At the Legion this Friday (tonight), it’s the Annual John Prine Gala, an opportunity to hear a variety of local musicians cover this legendary songwriter, 8 p.m. Tomorrow night, Rainbow Bridge will be playing with proceeds going to the food bank.
Heads up for next Friday, the 11th, when B.C.’s exciting “new grass” band,” The Unfaithful Servants will be playing. Advance tickets are available at robertscreeklegion.com. Show at 8 p.m.
I mentioned the Art Crawl already but don’t forget it’s coming up Oct, 18, 19 and 20, with plenty of Creek artists participating. Maps and guides can be picked up at most businesses and libraries.
Speaking of art, the Gumboot Cafe will be putting up their October show, featuring Port Moody artist Jaret Penner. I looked him up him on line and I think he will be worth checking out. His work is quirky and interesting.
Tonight (Friday) the Sunshine Coast Astronomy club will be featuring a presentation by Byron Elliot on his trip to the Pitcairn Islands in search of one of the darkest places on earth to view the sky, 7:30 to 9 p.m. at the Sechelt Library. Admission by donation.
Grandmothers are having an art sale and auction of work by more than 60 local artists, and all in support of the David Lewis Foundation. That’s this Saturday at Rockwood in Sechelt from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Oops! I almost forgot, I promised a pickled chanterelle recipe and some of you might be waiting.
I used to make pickled chanterelles using litres of luscious olive oil but can’t afford that anymore so I was very pleased to find this method which uses much less oil and is equally delicious. Rather than use precious newspaper space here is the online link. Go to foragerchef.com and look for Wild Mushroom Conserve. They are delicious, make a great gift and are a wonderful addition to a cheese or charcuterie board.
So find someone who knows and treat yourself to fall, forest mushroom walk and if not have a great week anyway.
